The Big Change: A Single-Stage Application Previously, applying for an Australian Partner Visa (Subclass 820/801 for onshore, Subclass 309/100 for offshore) involved a two-stage process: a temporary visa application followed by a permanent visa application. This has now been simplified to a single, consolidated application.

What Does This Mean for You?

• One Application, One Decision Point (for most): You will now lodge one application that covers both the temporary and permanent stages. While the Department of Home Affairs will still assess your relationship initially for a temporary grant, and then later for a permanent grant, the application process itself is unified.
• New Online Portal: Expect a new, more intuitive online platform for lodging your Partner Visa application. This is designed to make the process more user-friendly and efficient.
• Stricter Sponsorship Requirements: To ensure the integrity of the program and the safety of applicants, there will be enhanced sponsorship obligations. This includes mandatory character and police checks for sponsors, as well as clearer financial capacity requirements. This step reinforces our professional commitment to upholding the highest standards.
• Visa Application Charge (VAC) Increase: While streamlined, the cost has increased. From July 1, 2025, the base application fee for most Partner Visas is now approximately AUD 9,365.
